Our Story

 

Redemption is a labor of love born from a CA native, Australian transplant, and our pit/dachshund lovechild. 

I, Tammy, am a local San Jose born and bred native with Taiwanese roots. My mother is a maker and artist so my appreciation for handmade is innate. Dave comes from the Steiner (Waldorf) School system in Australia and was exposed to the arts from a young age. We met in 2013 while I was living in Australia and instantly connected over our shared love of art, slow fashion, sustainable living, and travel. When we explore new places we always seek to support the local makers and small businesses in that area. 

Our passion for shopping small inspired us to open Redemption. Dave moved here in 2015 so we could pursue our dream of opening a shop that embodied how we personally live and spend. We believe in the power of keeping our dollars close to home - it's a vote for the world we want and our goal was to curate a space for the likeminded, support local makers, and build community. The products we carry are all created by California businesses, many of whom have become friends.

We opened our Campbell shop in 2015, Los Gatos in 2018, then Santa Cruz at the height of the pandemic in 2020. We made the decision to scale back to one shop in hopes of spending more quality time with each other and our international families. Every purchase truly means the world to our little family and community of makers, we hope you find our shop as special as we do.
